Purchasing new kitchen cabinets can be overwhelming and because cabinets are such a huge investment, you want to ensure you are getting the most for your money. If you are a novice, it can be difficult to spot that signs that cabinets were built to last and are made from high-end materials and craftsmanship. Here are a few telltale signs that kitchen cabinets are high end.
Examine the Gliders
The gliders are the hardware on the underside or sides of the drawer and give the drawer its ability to slide open and closed. Look for drawers that have all-metal gliders that feature rollers. This makes it easier for the drawers to slide in and out. Drawers that feature plastic gliders may wear out more quickly.
Soft close gliders are a great option and are typically available on more high-end drawers. These gliders prevent people, including your children, from slamming the drawer shut. This can help lessen the wear and tear on the drawers and extend the life of the drawers.
Look for Dovetail Construction
While you are examining the drawers, take a closer look at the construction. Dovetail construction refers to drawers that feature locking joints. This means that the two pieces of wood, the front and side of the drawers, interlock and create a stronger finished product. If the drawers do not feature dovetail construction, ask about how the drawers were assembled.
Drawers that feature fastened or stapled particle board can be easier to damage.
Opt for All Plywood Construction
Solid wood is the standard of quality for kitchen cabinets. However, if solid wood isn't in your price range, choose plywood construction over particle board. Plywood is far more durable, easier to maintain, and does not become warped or damaged as easily as particle board. Additionally, plywood can hold much more weight than particle board and is not as easily damaged by liquids.
Do The Cabinets Come with a Warranty?
Finally, one of the less obvious signs that you are purchasing high-end cabinets is the availability of a warranty. The longer the warranty terms, the more the manufacturer stands behind their product, meaning that you are getting cabinets that will likely last for several decades. Think twice about purchasing cabinets that do not offer any type of warranty coverage.
