Three Banquette Seating Options For Your Kitchen

Blog

If your kitchen is on the larger side, it's ideal if you can use this space to provide seating for meals. While you'll still use your dining room for larger and more formal gatherings, your kitchen can work well for everyday eating. You can buy a table that suits the look and size of the space, but instead of buying a lot of chairs, consider hiring a local kitchen contractor to remodel the space to include custom banquette seating for you. This built-in type of seating is highly comfortable and creates a cozy look, too. Here are three banquette seating options that may work in your kitchen.

Straight

The simplest banquette seating that you can have in your kitchen is a straight seat that is essentially a bench with back support. You'll typically want this type of banquette against a wall, and you and your kitchen contractor can assess the space to determine the ideal layout for your kitchen eating area. Think about how many people you want to sit on the straight banquette at one time. For example, a popular option is to have the banquette built to accommodate two people, while two others can sit on chairs across the table.

"L" Shape

Depending on the layout of your kitchen, you might want to have your contractor build an "L"-shaped banquette. It will provide more seating than a straight banquette. For example, you might be able to have the banquette hold two people on each of its lengths, for a total seating capacity of four. An "L"-shaped banquette will often feel cozy, much like the corner booth at a restaurant. If you have a large family, an "L"-shaped banquette and a couple of additional chairs can provide enough space for everyone to eat in the kitchen at the same time.

"C" Shape

Another shape option to consider for your new kitchen banquette is a "C" shape. The curved nature of this structure has an inviting and homey feel and can work well to create visual softness in a space that is generally filled with straight lines. A "C"-shaped banquette can also accommodate a lot of people. If your kids often have friends visit for meals, they'll unquestionably enjoy sliding into this shape of banquette to eat together. If you favor the "C" shape, you'll generally want a round table for consistency. Reach out to a local kitchen remodeling contractor to discuss these and other banquette options.
