3 Reasons to Favor a Matte Kitchen Countertop

Blog

Putting lots of time and thought into choosing your new kitchen countertop can help to ensure that you make the right choice. A visit to any kitchen supply store will allow you to browse all sorts of options and even take home some small samples to assess how they look in your space. While you'll likely come across a lot of stone countertops that have a glossy finish, you should also see some that are matte in appearance. Even if you've always had glossy countertops, it can be a good idea to give serious consideration to a matte product. Here are some reasons that a matte countertop can be desirable.

It Has Less Glare

Glossy countertops tend to have a lot of shine, which may be appealing to some people. A potential drawback to this shininess, however, is the fact that the surface can produce a lot of glare. If your kitchen has a lot of bright overhead lighting, which is often the case, you may notice glare from these lights reflecting off a glossy countertop. If you aren't in favor of this glare, a matte countertop can be a good choice because its lack of shininess won't cause the lighting to reflect as much.

It Can Look Modern

While there are certainly lots of glossy countertops that offer a modern appearance, you may find that a matte product gives you the modern look that you want for your kitchen. Matte objects often have a sleek and modern style. For example, some vehicles that have matte paint can look more modern than those that are painted with glossy paint. If you have other modern elements in your kitchen, you may find that a matte countertop is a good visual fit.

It Has a Pleasant Feel

If your local kitchen supply store has samples of both glossy and matte countertops, take a few moments to run your hand across both of them. You may find that the matte sample has more of a pleasing feel than you expected. Some glossy countertops can sometimes feel a little sticky, even when they're perfectly clean. You may have also noticed this feeling with certain pieces of high-glossy furniture, too. Matte products, including countertops, tend to feel very smooth. If you expect that you'd enjoy the smooth feel of a matte countertop in your kitchen, as well as favor the other advantages of this finish, you can select a style that you want.
