3 Things To Do Before You Put Your House On The Market

Blog

If you are getting ready to sell your house, it takes more than just hiring a real estate agent to help you. If you are going to get the most value out of your house, you need to ensure that it's in as good of shape as possible. Plus, the better condition that your house is in, the more serious of buyers you are likely to attract. Here are a few suggestions of things to take care of before you put your house on the market.

1. The Roof

If your roof is practically falling off or if it has been longer than the average 10 to 15 years, then you may as well hire a roofing company to come put a new one on. Why exactly? A new roof is a big expense for a potential homebuyer to consider investing in after they have bought your house which may deter them from making an offer. By putting a new roof on your house, you won't even have to worry about negotiating it into the price, to begin with.

2. Dejunk

Having a house or garage full of junk and clutter isn't going to make anybody want to buy it. One way to really help attract buyers to your house is to get rid of all of the junk you have around your house. The goal in doing this is to get rid of all of the personalized things so that potential buyers can see themselves sitting and living in your house. When buyers can fully envision themselves in a home, they are more apt to make an offer on it.

3. Touch Up Paint

If your house hasn't been painted in the last five years or so, then you may want to consider hiring a painting company to come to repaint the whole thing in a neutral color, like white or a light grey. If you have had your house painted recently, then hire a painting contractor to come to touch it up. By touching up your walls, doors, and baseboards, you can help brighten up your space and make it look new again.

By taking some time and money and putting it into your home before you put it on the market, you can help to get the most money out of it in the long run. Before you make any of these changes, be sure to ask your real estate agent what their opinion is.

Understanding Remodeling Decisions

After I started focusing seriously on making my home look and feel brand new, it occurred to me that I needed to do something to make things even better. I started working with a team of remodeling contractors, and although I didn't always understand their decisions, it became apparent pretty quickly that they understood what they were doing. They worked with us each and every day to make things right, and I was really impressed with their level of professionalism. Check out this blog for great information on understanding remodeling decisions each and every time you complete a new project.
