Tips For Hand Washing Vinyl Siding

Blog

Is your home's siding not looking so great after years of neglect? You can make your vinyl siding look much better by cleaning a material, and it doesn't require a power washer to do it.. Here are a few tips that will help the job go much easier for you.

Use a Tarp

Be aware that the chemicals used to clean vinyl siding can damage the plants located around your home. It is always a good idea to place a tarp over your plants to protect them. You can use a heavy duty tarp or even some cut open trash bags, since all you are doing is shielding the shrubbery from falling chemicals.

Try Using Bleach Water or Vinegar

There are most likely some really tough stains on the vinyl siding. It helps to clean the tackle these stains first by scrubbing them with a bleach water solution. It works great on stains caused by mildew, or places where the siding is particularly dirty.

If you do not want to use bleach, try using a solution with 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar. It's a natural cleaning solution compared to using bleach, and it can be just as effective at removing mildew.

Buy a Telescopic Pole

There are places that will be hard to reach, and ideally you don't want to be scrubbing on a ladder. You'll need to get a telescopic pole so that you can reach areas high up on the siding while standing on the ground.

Rinse Frequently

Avoid making an entire pass at cleaning the vinyl siding without rinsing. There is a possibility that the dirt drys back onto the vinyl siding due to exposure from the sun. Clean in sections that are about 10-20 feet wide, then immediately rinse it off. You'll be able to see the progress you're making and avoid the problem with dirt drying on the material.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide

Believe it or not, but hydrogen peroxide does a great job at removing grass stains on your vinyl siding. The stains may of happened from grass clippings getting blown towards your home when cutting the grass. These stains are harder to remove because the grass stains are like a dye, and will need something that can lift the stain out of the siding material.

If you tried cleaning your siding and it still looks like it is in bad shape, you may be in need of vinyl siding replacement. A local contractor can help do this tough job for you. For more information, contact companies like Unique Home Solutions.
